Sontana Tutorial

Sending email in the proper format is one of the main problems with communicating in Thai via computer.

Writing email

If you copy and paste your text from Sontana into your email client it will be in Unicode. You can use the Coded Copy option in the Edit menu to paste in a different format, however, if your email program is Unicode aware then other formats may be cross coded, for example, from TIS-620 into UTF-8 Latin.

Unfortunately, there is no guaranteed way to send Thai in email conventionally; particularly because most people use Webmail (i.e. Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail etc) that changes the coding in unpredictable ways. The only way that is guaranteed to work consistently is to save your message as a file and attach that file to your email.
